FROM THE DIRECTOR
Under the direction of Mrs. Holly Vogtmann, our music/physical education teacher, we will continue with our student council this year. On Tuesday October 31, the candidates for student council had a very spirited and lively debate. We truly have a number of young politicians in training at New Beginnings Academy. A final debate will take place within classrooms on Friday November 3rd. Many thanks to Ms. Barton, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Crout, and Ms. L. Barton for organizing the great debate. Elections will be held Tuesday November 7th. Please encourage you child to vote. The purpose of student council is to give students a voice in improving their school community. They will help recommend activities that will create a positive image for their school and their community. We are very excited to introduce our first school wide reading program. The program will begin November 6th and run through May 2007. Students will be encouraged to read at home daily for specified periods based on grade level. As part of the incentive for students to get excited about reading, prizes will be handed out every two weeks to lucky recipients. Students who complete their reading sheet every two weeks will be given a ticket to be placed in a drawing. The ticket will be drawn every two weeks at morning assembly. Before the end of the program, every child will receive at least one special gift in the form of a reading buddy…it’s a surprise! At the end of the program a grand prize will be presented based on a drawing from the tickets students will earn every two weeks. Therefore, please encourage you child to read daily and return the forms every two weeks with parent/guardian signature. The grand prize for the school wide reading program will be a brand new bicycle. VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: ConfidenceEach month we focus on a different virtue. For November, the virtue is confidence. Teachers do special activities focusing on this virtue, and we recognize students who are demonstrating this virtue in a special way. Please help us in promoting this activity by reminding your children of the importance of character development. DONATIONS ACCEPTED To help with our indoor dismissal procedure we are looking for donations of new or slightly used walkie talkies with rechargeable bases. Our current indoor dismissal procedure requires Mr. Green to communicate the name of students to a teacher in the front entrance of the school. We hope to continue and improve this process with the aid of walkie talkies. Please make donation to main office. Thanks! Zap –A-Snack Pick-Up Date FACT Family will distribute orders placed with the recent Zap-A-Snack fund raiser on Monday November 13, 2006. All orders will be sent home with students. |

|
Please help us make the arrival and dismissal safe and efficient by following the established guidelines outlined in the enrollment packet. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we help students get in their cars directly in front of the building. Please do not park at the Auto Parts store across the street. That lot is for store customers only. NO SCHOOL NOVEMBER 23 & 24Please be reminded that there is no school on Thursday and Friday, November 23 & 24 (Thanksgiving). Classes resume Monday November 27th. SCHOOL PICTURE RETAKESSchool picture retake day is Friday, November 10. If your child wishes to have pictures taken again, or for the first time, he/she may do so on that day. If you are returning pictures, they must be in the original package and not have had any pictures removed or cut out. Since it is Casual Dress Day, students do not have to wear their uniforms that day. SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS Michigan weather and other factors in Michigan are unpredictable. There will be days when we need to cancel school because of in-climate weather conditions, power outages, or other reasons. If we do have to cancel school because of weather, or any other reason, it will be announced on the following stations: WJR RADIO (760 AM) FOX TV (CHANNEL 2) The announcement will be for: NEW BEGINNINGS ACADEMY. If we have to cancel school after the students arrive, we will attempt to contact the parents by phone as well as announcing it over the radio and TV. That is why it is important to keep your child’s emergency information card up to date with phone numbers. If you have any questions about this procedure, please contact Dr. Millette. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
